The renowned Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum, with its world-famous Ancient Egyptian collection, one of the largest Ancient Peruvian collections in Europe and the impressive paleontological collection has a distinguished reputation that goes far beyond the borders of the region. Centre for World Music

The research Centre for World Music at the Foundation of the University of Hildesheim offers lessons as well as a programme of events and an impressive collection of sound recording media, books and musical instruments (Irle collection).

Neisser archive and the museum of local history in the armoury

Exhibits from the Neisse region in Upper Silesia, a twin city and district of Hildesheim, are on display in one of the oldest half-timbered buildings in the city.

School museum

The school museum as part of the University of Hildesheim is located at the adult education centre in the city centre of Hildesheim. Lessons in a reconstructed class room from around 1900 give lively impressions of school practices and habits at that time. A semi-annual changing exhibition and a variety of study opportunities offer insights into former school times.

Theatre for Lower Saxony

The heart of the Theatre for Lower Saxony beats in Hildesheim. The theatre was created by the amalgamation of the Hildesheim City Theatre and the Hanover State Theatre. In addition to the permanent venues in Hildesheim and Hanover, the theatre company also travels to more than 50 other venues throughout Lower Saxony and has made a name for itself with theatre performances, musicals, opera and concerts. Anyone who steps into the magic of the 1,000-year-old city theatre will experience moments that they will never forget.

Cultural scene

Hildesheim is home to a widely varied, broad-ranging cultural scene.
